AvailableAbout Costa Pierogi
General Notes | Pierogi is a pint-sized guy with a ton of heart (and some wonderfully unique ears!). He's currently on the shy side and takes a little time to look at the big wide world, but he is warming up beautifully in his foster home every single day. Once he knows he's safe, his gentle, sweet nature shines right through. If you have a quiet home and a little patience to watch this small pup blossom into your most loyal companion, Pierogi is ready to fill your life with love! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days. Personality | Pierogi is very shy and still learning to trust people! He's hoping to find a patient family that will understand he might not be ready to cuddle up with them until he learns they aren't trying to hurt him. Story | Pierogi had a rough start to life first surviving with his littermates all alone in the woods and then they all tested positive for parvo shortly after arriving into a foster home. His first few weeks spent around humans were full of medications, crate time and needle injections to help him fight off the parvo. As a result, he's still learning to trust people. He thinks hands reaching into the crate or reaching over him to grab him means pain and needles. He will take some time to trust but this sweet boy is full of potential! He is learning to trust people a little more every day in his foster home and even jumped on his foster moms lap for cuddles recently! Other Dogs | Great with other dogs! He gets his confidence from other dogs and would prefer a doggy friend in his future home! He's been around other dogs and puppies his whole life and thrives on their interaction! He's more in the submissive side with doggy friends and listens to their cues well. He's also still a puppy who loves to play! He spends a good amount of the day playing with his 1 year old fluffy, 60 lb foster sister! Cats | He is being fostered with a kitty and doing well! He doesn't chase the kitty and is respectful. Children | Due to having a rough start to life, Pierogi is still learning to trust humans and would do best in a home with older kids who know he takes a moment to warm up. He gets really scared when he's cornered and starts shaking, so little kiddos may be stressful for him. Training | Pierogi is doing well with potty training and crate training! He already sees the crate as his safe space and goes inside when he's scared. Right now, his training mostly consists of building his confidence and rewarding him whenever he shows an act of bravery. He gets treats simply for being brave enough to hop on his foster mom's lap or walk over the doorway when called. Leash | Pierogi gets a little better on the leash every day! Activity Level | Moderate. He loves to play with doggy friends! He also loves all toys and picks up all the sticks in the yard. He hasn't started to fetch balls yet, but he does enjoy chasing his foster siblings when they chase balls in the yard! Health Notes | Healthy and happy :) Thank you! Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog). Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
