About Charlie

Charlie is a 10-month-old Border Collie/Kelpie mix who found his way to the shelter after life as a stray. He arrived nervous and underweight, clearly having been through rough treatment in his past. Since coming in, Charlie has shown a lot of improvement but still needs an adopter who understands the patience required to help a shy dog open up. He starts off nervous, especially around new people or quick movements, but it doesn’t take long before he’s climbing into your lap, hungry for affection. Charlie was named for his warm chocolate coloring and, true to his name, has a lovable, goofy side once he feels safe. He promises all the energy and curiosity you’d expect from a young working-breed mix, always up for a little mischief or a new adventure. He looks for a home ready to keep up with his active nature—he’ll need both physical exercise and mental games to stay balanced. As he hasn’t had much training yet, patience and guidance will be important parts of his early months. Charlie is showing some reactivity toward other dogs in the kennel, so any introductions to other pets should happen slowly, with a careful eye. He has not been tested around kids, and a calm, supervised environment is best as he learns boundaries. He’s received his initial vaccinations and is waiting in Hays, KS, for a fresh start with a kind, adventurous owner. This good-natured pup is ready to bring his playful spirit to the right person or family. Let’s make it official, apply to adopt!
