About Mateo HW+

Meet Mateo—your future best friend and the definition of resilience. This proud Puerto Rican Boxer made his way to the mainland two years ago, navigating more changes than most dogs ever see. He's been through several foster homes, was adopted, and most recently surrendered, but Mateo has never lost his spark. Now safe with Border Tails Rescue, he's still waiting for that one, permanent home he's never truly had. Mateo is about 4 to 5 years old and bursts with life and quirky charm. He's a happy boy, always eager for attention, and has no trouble letting you know when he wants it—sometimes by "chatting" with you in his goofy way. He’s got more energy than your average adult dog, so he’ll thrive with an experienced owner who can give him structure, consistency, and plenty of exercise and enrichment. He does best in calmer, quieter areas like the suburbs or countryside. City living overwhelms him—the noise and bustle can make him anxious. Mateo has a strong prey drive and cannot live with cats, but he’s good with other dogs and enjoys their company. On leash, he may need some extra guidance to keep him focused. He’s currently being treated for heartworm, and the rescue will support his medical care during this time, but his joyful and resilient attitude continues to shine through. While Mateo lived with children in the past, his perfect family setup is still being figured out as he settles into his foster home. One thing is certain: in a quiet country setting, he’s showing his best self. Mateo is looking for someone who will understand him, believe in him, and finally give him the stability and love he deserves. In return, he’ll reward you with loyalty, laughter, and a one-of-a-kind bond. Ready to fall in love? Hit apply and lets get started.
