About Wave

Wave ACCT-A-245249 Wave came to ACCT Philly as an owner surrender on April 30th. His owner had him since he was eight weeks old and described him as loving and loyal. Wave is a four-year-old small mixed breed with a lot of heart for the people he trusts. Wave is a dog who wears his feelings openly. In the kennel he greets staff at the front with a loose body and gentle tail wags, and has been showing real progress during his stay - staff have noted he's been lunging less and settling in more. He does best with slow, patient handling; he can be hesitant around strangers and becomes anxious when approached quickly or leashed under pressure, but responds well to treat lures and calm body language. Outside, he's been observed sniffing around and going potty relaxed on leash, and showed appropriate curiosity toward another dog through the fence with a loose body and mid-level tail wags. Wave is looking for a rescue who can give him the time and structure he needs to build trust. He was definitely seeking out attention to get out of his crate, barking , tail wagging and at times front paws up on crate. He was very easy to leash and walk. He was soliciting attention from me from as soon as he got out of the crate and heading into in the yard. I sat on the ground with him and he stepped right up on my lap. He accepted and seemed to enjoy pets all over and even gave me a kiss! He explored the yard. He had gone to the bathroom in his crate but he went also #1 & 2 as soon as we got to the yard, so I believe he is trying to stay house trained . He walked back easily. This was the first time we met. Per volunteer 5/21/26: I was expecting him to be different (hard to handle), based on his notes. That was not my experience at all. It took a few tries to get him out but once I did, we were off and running. He liked being held and really was a pleasure to have out (and went easily right back into his kennel). I really enjoyed my time with him.:) Per volunteer 5/15: "I had Wave out today as he was frantic to get out. He is head shy of the leash as though he had no experience with it. I took it slowly with him and was able to l leash him and carry him outside. He was curious outside and liked watching activity around him. He solicited attention from me and jumped up and sat in my lap. He took treats nicely upon the return to the kennel which also provided a distraction to removing the leash which he didn't seem to care about." Per staff 5/14/26: Took out wave today, came to the front with soft eyes and low tail wags. Took a treat gently through the bars. When I put the leash in he backed up with ears back and a low tail. I used a treat lure and to leash which took a few attempts. When the leash tightened he would back up and flail, yelping. When leashed he backed up, failed, yelped and bit at the leash with a tucked tail, ears back, wide eyes, tense body. He then came forward with a low tail, ears back and looser body. Took a treat gently and I was able to pick him up with the same body language. Once in the yard he shook off and sniffed around low loose tail, ears back, loose body. Allowed all handling and would nudge my hand when I stopped petting him. Going back inside he walked on a loose leash, ears back, tail low, wider eyes. I picked him up before getting to the small dog room and was able to place him in kennel and remove my leash easily with low tail, loose body, ears back. Per staff 5/11: Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel with a loose body, mid level tail wags, soft eyes. Took a treat gently. Leash Skills: When I put the leash in his kennel he moved to the back, ears back, panting. I offered a treat which he came to the front for and was able to leash him with a treat lure. Once leashed he came right out and pulled mildly on leash with a loose body, mid tail, ears back. Sociability: Sniffed around the yard and would not come over when I called to him. Nose to the ground sniffing, ears back, low tail. Not eating treats in the yard. Tolerated me petting his back, neck, head and sides with a low tail, ears back and lip licked at his lower back. He moved away when I stopped petting him. Play: N/a Dog Interaction: Sniffed at a large dog through the fence, mid tail wags, ears back, loose body, whining. Return to Kennel: Walked back with a low tail, eyes darting and ears back. Once we were in the small dog room he pulled back on the leash and started jumping pawing at the leash with wide eyes, panting, ears back, low tail. Tried a trail of treats, which he got close to his kennel then stopped. Needed moderate leash pressure to return. Once in kennel he was eating again and with a treat on the ground I was able to remove the leash. Color Level: Experienced Blue Per staff 5/10: Staff took Wave out as he hadn't been out, they shared he had been getting better and was lunging less at the cage. They shared it appears to be when anyone tries to leash him that he freaks out a bit but they shared they thought this could be also because he can't see well with the fur in his eyes. They used a snappy snare and took him outside the admin door area. Staff was about ten feet away with another dog and Wave saw her but didn't react. He walked around and went potty and sniffed. Was still on snappy snare. Per staff 4/30: While staff was trying to leash up in the intake lobby dog was growling slightly and snapped up as she attempted to leash and bit her left index finger breaking skin right above her nail bed. Per staff 4/30: On eval for behavior, growls and barks when you get near or approach. Per owner not friendly with strangers. Per owner surrender notes 4/30: Owner had Wave for four years. Loving and playful with his owner. Household included adults and children ages 9-16. Not housebroken. Lives inside. Crate trained. Medium energy. He has attempted to bite if it's not his owner. Does not walk on leash, always inside. Reacts not so good toward strangers, ok toward children, good toward cats, good toward dogs. Per owner 3/14: Loving and caring, but very overprotective if he's unsure you, he will try to bite you. Always still happy when I'm coming home and laying with me and again also very protective. Bit my daughter because he didn't want her handling him just me. He has anxiety. He don't like other people if it's not me the owner. - ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
