Nala is a sweet girl who’s looking for a relaxed, quiet home, experienced with positive reinforcement, where she can feel safe and loved. She can be shy and skittish at first, especially with new people, but with patience and positive reinforcement, she blossoms into an affectionate, playful companion. She will also benefit from having a space to retreat when she feels overwhelmed. She's an incredibly sweet, gentle, and playful girl looking for an understanding home. MEN: Did you know that men are often a bit scary to some dogs? It doesn't mean there has been abuse, it's actually common - men tend to be larger/taller, and have deeper voices, which can be very intimidating to many dogs, and especially for dogs who are skittish. But don't worry, like many scary things, a fear of men can be slowly improved with time and patience. To create a bond, allow a dog to set the pace, and approach when ready. Quick movements and reaching for a skittish or unfamiliar dog can hinder progress. Nala will let you know with leaning, pawing, or nose boops that she's becoming comfortable. Please don't feel rejected, it can take time - but it's worth the wait OTHER PETS: Nala may be able to live with other pets, but this will be determined on a case-by-case basis. A slow introduction is essential, and all potential canine companions must meet her first to ensure compatibility. She has a bit of a rough & tumble play style, and not all dogs will appreciate that. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Nala will thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands positive reinforcement, canine body language and signals. She needs someone who can recognize signs of stress or discomfort and work with her using patience and positive reinforcement and help build her confidence. She can display nervous energy, but with time, the abililty to decompress and build a bond, this will improve. [Experienced] KIDS: Because Nala can be nervous around new people and is sensitive to being handled, she would do best in a calm, predictable environment. She is not suited for homes with young children but may do well with respectful teenagers (15+) who understand and respect her boundaries and preferences. Active supervision with kids will keep everyone safe. A meet-and-greet is required to ensure a good fit. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Nala enjoys daily walks and would make a great hiking companion given time and positive reinforcement, and the opportunity to fully decompress once in a new home. She has a high energy level and would benefit from regular exercise to keep her happy and healthy, as well as plenty of mental enrichment such as puzzles and games. She would likely benefit from another canine companion as well. [Active] VETERINARY CARE: Nala requires routine veterinary care, including regular checkups, vaccinations, and flea/tick prevention to keep her in good health. [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Nala build confidence and trust as she learns skills and tricks. She benefits from gentle, reward-based methods and patient guidance. [Moderate] GROOMING: Nala has minimal grooming needs, but will need slow introductions to nail trims with lots of high value treats like pieces of chicken.
