About Smokey

This little guy has all of the best qualities a cat can have - playful, loving, curious, easygoing, quirky, and loyal. Want a cat that adorably chases ribbons? Maybe one that flops onto the floor for belly rubs? One that isn’t picky about food? How about one you can hold and carry around like a baby? Smokey is your guy! Smokey will be your most loyal companion. Once you’ve earned his trust, he will enjoy following you around and being in the same room with you, watching what exciting (or boring!) things you’re up to. If you need a work-from-home buddy, this is the cat for you! He feels at home when he can lounge while watching TV with you or taking a nice snooze while you work. Sometimes when he gets lost in another room, he will meow so that he can find you. If you’re for some of the best qualities of a dog but in a cat-shaped form, you’ve found your boy! Smokey has great energy and will play with most toys that you give him, though he does prefer toys that look/act like prey (faux fur, feathers). He loves to follow you around your home, making sure you’re safe and watched over. He is very food-motivated and will eat just about any food (he does prefer canned wet food when possible). Smokey would do very well in a home with older children - he can be spooked by loud noises or fast movements, but he would really enjoy having older children that want to play with him! He loves ribbons and wand toys and will play as long as the kids want to play. He is a very resilient little guy - he bounces back quickly after anything from being surprised by a loud noise or accidentally falling off of the couch after a deep sleep. Talk about easygoing! If you need a companion for your current pet, Smokey would be an amazing choice. In his foster home, he has an older female foster sister (11 years old) who does not appreciate his playful energy. Despite this, he really wants to be friends with her. He would love having another pet to play with and snuggle with. If you have a younger cat in your home who is bored and looking for a playmate and friend, Smokey could be an excellent option as he would very much like a friend to spend his life with. Smokey does not have a foster dog sibling in his current home, but he may also be a great companion for a home with a dog that is also looking for a playmate and friend. Things to note about Smokey: His foster mom is currently working on training him to not treat hands like toys, and he may need some reinforcement of this in his next home. He loves pets and scratches, but when he gets extra playful and excited, he may try to grab for your hands to play with. He was living outside when he was rescued and has tried to go back out occasionally, so it’s best to make sure he doesn’t get access outside through doors left open for too long. Smokey seems to be very familiar with life indoors, and performs activities like using a litter box and eating/drinking out of bowls appropriately. He has no known medical issues at this time. Smokey’s foster mom took him in right after his neutering surgery, and he has become a more calm cat (though still playful) with less frequent meows. He has never sprayed or urinated in the house inappropriately.
