Meet Carrie — The Timid Young Aussie Hoping for a Safe Forever Home This sweet girl came to us as a stray after a concerned traveler saw her roadside near a very busy interstate and highway. Worried for her safety and the safety of others, they were able to safely pull over, pick her up, and bring her to us so we could help locate her family. During their short time with her, they shared that this cute tricolor Australian Shepherd was very sweet, though understandably scared. She became car sick on the way, which may have been due to nerves. Because she was so frightened, they had to carry her into the car and into our lobby. With no microchip and no collar or ID tag, there was no way to contact a potential owner. Since arriving, we’ve learned that she loves being carried, so we named her Carrie. Carrie has met another canine friend here at the shelter, and once again needed to be carried to the meeting. On the ground, she stayed low, army-crawled, and rolled onto her back in a very submissive manner. After a little time, she relaxed, untucked her tail, and began bouncing playfully. Because she was a stray, we do not know how she interacts with cats. She is still learning what a leash is and how to walk on one, and she currently prefers being carried. With time, patience, and a loving home, she will gain confidence and learn that the world is a safe place. If you can offer Carrie a forever home where she will feel secure, loved, and supported as she grows more confident, we encourage you to come meet her in person. All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines and preventatives.
