About Cupid

To apply for Cupid, first read this bio, and then fill out an adoption application at http://cayugadogrescue.org/wp/adoption-application/ My name is Cupid and I am an incredibly good-natured, hilarious, and slightly rascally puppy! Quick Facts: o Breed: Lab mix o Gender: Male; neutered o Age: 6 months! o Size: 45 pounds (might be 70 when finished growing!) Good with… o Dogs? Yes! o Cats? Yes! o Kids? Yes! (most experience with 10+) History I was born in a litter of 7 in November 2025, was surrendered by our owner to a shelter in January 2026, and I got adopted by my current family in February. There are 3 kids and 2 adults in my current home and I’ve been learning and playing with them since then! I got to take the AKC STAR Puppy training course through Ithaca Dog Training Club and passed the skills test at the end to earn my ribbon! I’m a smart puppy! Personality I love people! I love to be petted and paid attention to, and everyone loves to pet me! I give sweet little licks/kisses to everyone in the morning to say “Hello! So glad you’re here!” I have cute ridges of fur at the nape and sides of my neck and along my legs, and my ears are both up and floppy. I love to be cuddled and kissed when I am calm (not as much when I am in play-mode). I have an exuberance for life, and I love seeing what you’re up to, following you around, joining in when I can and also going for outdoor adventures in the yard and on leashed walks. I am a fantastic blend of “happy to be active but also happy to chill out with you!” I am great with dogs of all sizes and personalities! In my puppy class, I played super nicely with all of the dogs there, even the ones that other pups were scared of. I love having doggy friends and would probably be over the moon to share my new home with another friendly dog! I am also great with cats! Interested, curious, playful, with no aggression at all. I am smart! I have learned a bunch of things like Sit, Lay Down, Stay, and Come. I have my own opinions about things sometimes (like what I want to do and not do), but as long as you use positive reinforcement strategies with me (i.e., reward me with treats and praise!), I will usually be happy to do what you ask. And bonus…I do not jump up on people! That is so rare for a pup of my age! When my family goes to work and school, I “crate up” (and get a yummy treat) and even though they are sometimes gone as long as 5 or 6 hours, I make it without trouble. And am so excited when they return! I like being outdoors! My short fur makes cold weather “BRRRRRR!” but having a jacket or sweater helps a lot! Playing in the snow is fun as long as I have a good coat! When my favorite buddy in the family, the 10-year-old boy, plays outside on his swing, I play alongside him by grabbing onto a hanging rope or by chewing on sticks! We are a great team! When he runs, I run alongside him, and we go as fast as we can. It is so much fun to run and to jump, I think I’d enjoy doing agility classes and I bet I would be good at it! I am still a puppy, so naturally interact a lot by using my mouth. I have NEVER bitten any person or animal, but need to keep improving my mouth skills, getting gentler and gentler over time. It’s hardest when I’m excited (like when the 10-year-old is laughing and wrestling with me) or when I am overtired, but I am getting better all the time. My favorite games are “Chew!” (on ropes, on toys, on stuffed animals) and “Chase!” (balls or rope toys, or you, or anything you throw). And unlike some dogs, I always give you the ball back so you can throw it again! Mental stimulation is really fun and great for me, so if you want to teach me tricks (using treats of course), let’s do it! I am excellent in the car! I don’t get any car sickness and I sleep easily! Cohabitation I love my people and love meeting new people. I am a teensy bit shy with strangers, but warm up immediately when they show their kindness. When my family went out of town a few times, I stayed with friends of theirs who had kids and dogs and adjusted really well! I am fantastic with dogs of all types! I live with two young indoor cats who I am perfectly fine with, though they are having a hard time adjusting to me. They mostly stay on a different floor and run or hiss when they see me, but I have been nothing but friendly. I’m just confused about why they don’t want to be friends! My favorite person, besides my Mom, is the 10-year-old boy in the family. I sleep in his room, usually in his bed or on his floor at night with the door shut. I’m sleeping from 9pm until 6 or 7am now! Favorite Activities o Going on adventures to walk in new places! o Exploring around my yard to watch birds, insects, and use my very good nose! o Playing with stuffed and squeaking toys! o Running alongside you! o Joining you for a rest on the couch! o Doing what you ask me to do, for a treat! Why I am looking for a new home I am a bigger and more active dog than some of my family want, and the two cats in my home aren’t adjusting to me being here, no matter how friendly I am to them. So the family decision is to find me a great new home, with folks who will love my size and activity level and smarts, and where maybe there is even another dog in the home to play with, or maybe friendly cats who like dogs! Medical I am in great health, am up to date on all vaccines, and take flea/tick and heartworm preventive medicine. Summary I’m sad that I will have to leave my current family as they have been so fun and good to me. However, I know that I can meet new people who are kind, loving, and fun! As a youngster, I need continued kind, loving, positive guidance so I can keep learning better manners and adult dog behaviors. It would be exciting to have a dog friend in the house or any animals that might help keep me company when the people are away or busy! I am a very loyal and treat-motivated puppy who tries hard and cares so much to be good. I am finally consistently going potty outside (but of course will have accidents in the first few weeks when I go to my new home, like most all dogs do)!
