Melly is a 6-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix who thrives when she’s near her people. Loyal and sweet-natured, she’ll trail you from room to room, curl up at your feet while you work, or quietly take over your favorite chair when you’re not watching. She has a strong bond with her family and loves to snuggle deep into the covers when you’d rather be up and going—in fact, she’s nearly impossible to wake up in the morning, but by afternoon she’s a different dog, ready to explore or chase her way across the dog park. She’s just as happy adventuring as lounging; at the park, she revels in a good chase with other dogs and gets wild for a squeaky toy or the challenge of a snuffle mat hunt. Food is high reward for her, so counters aren’t safe, and she can get possessive when there’s food around other dogs—she’ll do best as the lone dog at home. She’s great with older kids (though big and bouncy on occasion), and she can handle being left alone, often snoozing away the day. A house with a yard suits her, as she enjoys time outside as long as she gets her two daily walks. Melly howls for the doorbell but flips to friendly the moment guests walk in. She must live in a cat-free home due to her hound instincts. Loud storms get to her, but cuddles and a thunder blanket help.
