Meet #Gia Tiny little Gia arrived here with tired eyes, a frail little body, and a story we will probably never fully know. This sweet senior Maltese mix weighs only around 10 pounds, and somewhere along the way, life stopped being gentle with her. She came to us as a stray, and no one has come looking for her. No phone calls. No posts shared searching for her. Nothing. When Gia first arrived, her eyes were in rough shape from a severe infection. They looked painful and neglected, and it was obvious this little girl had not been receiving the care she deserved. Senior dogs like Gia require patience, grooming, vet care, soft places to rest, and people willing to notice when something isn’t right. These tiny dogs depend entirely on humans. And still… despite everything… Gia is unbelievably kind. She melts right into the volunteers’ arms and honestly seems happiest just being carried around from room to room. That’s become her routine here, tucked against someone’s chest while they walk through the shelter trying to make her feel safe again. There is something especially heartbreaking about elderly little dogs ending up in loud, crowded shelters. Dogs like Gia should be napping in sunny windows, wrapped in blankets, waiting for bedtime snacks… not listening to barking echo off kennel walls. She deserves softness for the rest of her life. She deserves comfort. She deserves someone who will never let her feel forgotten again.
