🐾‼️Meet Hobbes‼️🐾 After meeting with multiple applicants and even being adopted briefly, we've discovered that while people find Hobbes adorable, we may need to clarify a few things a bit more strongly. Hobbes was surrendered after spending his first year in a home that offered little structure or attention. He was part of a litter meant to be sold by a casual breeder, then left behind with an elderly family member when it wasn't as easy as they thought it would be. Hobbes had never even been given a name during that first year. Despite his beginning, he's a very intelligent and affectionate dog who gets along so well with all other animals. He will need a home committed to continuing normal training and socialization though. And he may take time to warm up to new people. Due to his young age, Hobbes has his active spurts (zoomies), but also LOVES couch time next to his human friends. While he's inherently a very good natured dog, he is nervous with strangers and can remain that way until he gets to know someone. He is completely worth the time and warms up quickly, but an effort has to be put forth to get to that step. His first experience with housetraining, walking with a leash on, and meaningful interaction with people began in his foster home about two months ago. Hobbes picked up leash walking quickly, but will still run circles around you and get his leash twisted up, which may in turn startle him. He is picking up housetraining, but will still have accidents in the house if his cue isn't noticed right away. ** The biggest impediment to his adoption though, is that he experiences separation anxiety when left kenneled and he knows people are home. His reaction to being without humans is constant barking which will resolve after about 15 minutes, until he realizes people are back home. This can become an issue quickly in an apartment or situation where neighbors are close. A new home would have to continue to work with him. Lastly, Hoobes is a Shih Tzu mix. He looks like a Shih, but with longer legs and a longer body. His coat will need periodic grooming (4 times a year minimum) and he may need a mild sedative from his veterinarian prior to each appointment until he becomes more comfortable with it all. He is neutered, heartworm tested and vaccinated. Appointments to meet him will be scheduled for those who apply to adopt him once it's established the home may be a good fit for him.
