About Nelson

Nelson is a man with character and flair! He knows what he wants and when he wants it and isn’t afraid to say it! Nelson will be ruling the roost in no time once he finds his perfect family and there’s not a more loyal cat around. That being said, Nelson is not a beginner cat and is going to require a person or family that are willing to do the work with him and give him the patience he needs. He has made amazing progress at our office since arriving but Nelson needs to be “won over” and definitely has picked his favorite caregivers at the office. If you are not in his roster of favorites, Nelson can be kind of a jerk and will bite and swipe when someone tries to pet him if he hasn’t approved it. All that being said, he’s a very high energy boy and a lot of this could be boredom so while we would probably never trust him alone with a toddler or young child, in a home environment with lots of enrichment he should continue to improve on the swiping and biting. When he likes you and he’s feeling up for love, he’s a very very sweet boy who shows his gratitude for those that understand all his layers by chatting about his day and adventures with you. If you have a soft spot for the bad boys then we urge you to consider paying Nelson a visit and discovering why all of us at HQ adore him despite his “quirks”. He and fellow bad boy, Brooks, enjoying playing with paws in the air from their side-by-side cages and he did live with other cats prior to arriving into our care. We do not know how he might do with dogs but didn't seem to concerned about them nearby. Although he does have a lot of white that lessens his camoflauge, he may do well with indoor/outdoor time to exercise he needs but that, of course, would need to happen gradually onnce he knows his new home is home and he should not run off and get lost. That typically takes 6-8 weeks of containment, particularly for the shy cats.Meet Nelson by completing our online adoption application. All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, FELV/FIV tested, dewormed and started on monthly flea preventative. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at pets@mpravl.org for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.
