Samantha arrived missing one eye, and while her past is a mystery, her desire for affection is clear. She’s a larger Dachshund—about 20 pounds—who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. If you sit down, expect her to try to settle in your lap. Samantha shares a close friendship with Josie, who came from the same background. She’s cautious with new faces and can be vocal when strangers are near, but once she feels safe, she becomes deeply affectionate and loyal. Samantha needs a calm home where someone can spend plenty of time helping her feel secure; she thrives on attention and companionship. Toys aren’t her thing, though she’ll occasionally chew a Nylabone. She will eat in her crate and can be crated if needed, but really prefers curling up next to you. If crated, she might bark briefly before quieting down. Samantha hasn’t been tested around children or cats, as her foster home doesn’t have either.
