From his current owner: “Cash is a ~2-year-old Labrador mix (about 120 lbs), named after Johnny Cash—our “man in black.” He is up to date on all vaccinations (as of February 2026), is healthy, and has no medical conditions or medications aside from standard preventatives. He is not currently neutered. He is a very friendly, people-loving dog and truly such a good boy. He is house-trained, leash-trained, and knows his name and basic commands. He has a playful personality and does well with guidance, though he doesn’t always realize how big he is. One of his favorite quirks is howling along with sirens when fire trucks or ambulances pass, it’s so adorable. Cash has done well with smaller dogs and has shown no signs of food aggression toward people or other dogs. We have limited experience with him around larger dogs and cats; he does tend to chase squirrels and cats outdoors. He has been around young children (ages 1–6) and does well. He tends to keep to himself in those situations. He is always supervised around children. He is generally quiet and only barks when alerting to something. Once acknowledged, he will cease barking. The main challenge we’ve encountered is his need for more activity and consistent presence. When left alone for extended periods (5+ hours), he can become anxious and may chew (for example, door frames). He is not crate-trained. We attempted this early on, but he became highly distressed and escaped, so we discontinued crate use for his safety. Cash would do best in a home with: - m A fenced yard and space to run (not suited for apartment living) - An active owner or family who can give him regular exercise and attention - Ideally someone home more often or with a flexible schedule We have had Cash for about 1.5 years (since he was approximately 6–8 months old). He came to us with limited background information and had previously been kept outdoors, but he has been living indoors with us since. We are a long-distance couple, and as a single working household most of the time, we’re unfortunately not able to provide the level of time, activity, and consistency he needs to thrive. We are located in North Carolina and are open to traveling for the right placement. We need to find him a new home soon, but our priority is making sure it is the right home. We are also happy to provide references from boarding facilities we’ve used, as well as additional photos/videos and any other information that would be helpful. This is incredibly hard for us. Cash is a loving dog who deserves a home where he can truly flourish. We want to do right by him. Thank you for your time and consideration.”
