AvailableAbout Taki
Taki is an 11-year-old, 43-pound gentle soul who's just beginning to discover what it means to be a "house dog." Having spent his life outdoors with other dogs, the sights and sounds of indoor living-TVs, ceiling fans, and all the little things we take for granted-are completely new to him. Because of this, Taki will need a patient and understanding adopter who can give him the time, space, and guidance he needs to adjust at his own pace. When first settling into a home, Taki may feel a bit overwhelmed. He might spend some time pacing or searching for a way back outside, simply because he's unsure and trying to make sense of his new surroundings. But with a little patience, he does begin to relax. On a recent Dog's Day Out, he was able to settle on the couch after a couple of hours-a small but meaningful step that shows his potential to grow more comfortable with time-and he did not have any accidents during his outing. Despite his timid nature, Taki truly wants connection. He seeks reassurance from his people and, once he starts to feel safe, enjoys curling up for quiet cuddles on the couch. Meeting new people can be scary for him, and he may lower his head or cower, but he has never shown any aggression-just a sensitive heart trying to be brave in a big, unfamiliar world. Taki feels most at ease outdoors, where he loves to explore and take in his surroundings. On leash, he may pull a bit, but it's manageable. He's also treat-motivated outside and takes treats gently once he's comfortable, though he's still too anxious to accept them indoors just yet. Car rides make him nervous, and he'll need a little boost to get in, but he rides okay once settled (and should be safely tethered to keep him from climbing up front). He's also shown that he's willing to learn-Taki takes direction well with a gentle "eh eh, no," and seems to genuinely appreciate praise when he makes the right choice. His responsiveness is a wonderful sign that, with patience and encouragement, he will continue to grow more confident and comfortable. Because he's still learning what it means to feel secure, Taki will need a fenced yard-ideally with a privacy fence-and supervision as he adjusts, as he may try to dig under the fence early on. One of the biggest gifts you could give Taki is a confident canine companion. Another dog in the home could help show him the ropes and give him the reassurance he craves. Taki's world has changed dramatically, and he's doing his best to keep up. He's gentle, deeply sensitive, and quietly brave-a dog who wants to trust and connect, even when he's unsure how. In a patient, loving home willing to move at his pace, Taki has the potential to truly blossom into a devoted and affectionate companion.
