An Active Playmate and Cuddle Bug Luca is a very active pup with a lot of love to give. He is fully house-trained on a 4-hour potty schedule and sleeps like a champ through the night in his open crate. When you are away, Luca has zero separation anxiety; he happily relaxes in his playpen with some background music and takes a nap. His favorite activities include wrestling with other dog friends, enjoying chew treats like pig's ears, and jumping up to give you enthusiastic face licks. He has a long beautiful coat that has been shaved down for the warmer summer months. Smart and Eager to Learn Luca is highly intelligent and already learning his basic commands! He is currently working on "sit," "down," "heel," "look," "touch," "drop it," and "leave it." Because he is still in his young puppy-at-heart phase, he does have a tendency to chew on random things and explore with his mouth, so he will need an adopter who can keep providing safe chew toys and positive guidance. Walks and Social Life Luca does best when walked by himself. When walking solo, he listens well to commands and rarely barks at passersby. However, when walked with another dog, he gets overly excited, copies the other dog's energy, and will bark at people or dogs to protect his pack. He also gets so playful that he tries to bite the leashes when crossing the street! For this reason, he needs an owner committed to continuing his solo leash training. He is also a curious boy who is still learning about the big world—unfamiliar things like fire hydrants might get a bark, but he corrects easily when you redirect his attention. The Ideal Home Luca will thrive best in an active household that can match his high energy and commitment to training. Because of his bouncy nature, he is not suited for senior adopters. He can excel in two different home environments: • As an Only Dog: He would absolutely love being the center of your world, provided he gets regular playdates with dog friends to burn off energy. • With a Companion Dog: He can live with another dog as long as the resident dog is not an dominant "alpha" type, as Luca loves to wrestle and play. Training and Guarding Notes Luca is a very sweet boy, but he does have minor resource guarding tendencies. He can be possessive of his toys, his bed, and his favorite human's affection if another dog tries to step in. This is entirely manageable with consistent, positive-reinforcement training. His future family should be sensitive to his body language and ready to keep working on his boundaries. Because of this, Luca would do best in an adult-only home. Luca is neutered, up-to-date on all his shots (including rabies), and microchipped.
