About Ziggy
Ziggy’s story isn’t simple. This 4-year-old, tricolor Rat Terrier/Cattle Dog mix has been bounced from shelters in Houston, adopted and returned, and navigated more uncertainty than any dog deserves. After a very rough start, Ziggy has landed in Boulder and is looking for a stable, patient home—finally. He’s a low-to-the-ground 25-lb homebody with a soft spot for cozy couches and a keen eye for backyard squirrels. Ziggy is well-socialized with dogs off-leash, especially in the comfort of home, and really does best if there’s a confident, friendly canine companion around. While leash walks in busy neighborhoods aren’t his thing—he gets wound up when meeting other dogs on-leash—he genuinely blossoms in a calm household with room to run. An adopter with access to a large yard and who understands leash management is important. Though he’s initially shy with strangers, Ziggy opens up fast and becomes affectionate—funny, loyal, and deeply bonded to his people. He’s house trained, trustworthy loose at home, and not destructive, but does vocalize (howl or cry) when left alone, so apartment living isn’t a fit. He thrives on routine and a steady companion, preferably someone retired or often at home. His blindness in one eye doesn’t slow him down, and his health is excellent—he’s neutered, vaccinated, and clear of heartworm. Ziggy will need a committed adopter who sees the value in positive reinforcement training—group classes are a must. He isn’t looking for perfection, just someone who won’t give up. If you have patience and the stability he craves, Ziggy will give unwavering loyalty in return. Your new best friend is just one click away.
