About Canelo

Canelo, a young puppy, was found in April in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. He was emaciated, congested, and painfully weak. He stumbled and fell when he tried stand. He possessed an enduring will to live. It took a couple of days in our care -- but soon he was able to wag his tail. That tiny little wag felt huge - like he was slowly deciding maybe the world could still be kind to him. A warrior, battled and conquered bronchitis. Now, at 5 months old and about 15 lbs, he's transformed into the funniest, sassiest, happiest puppy. We estimate he'll likely grow into a medium-large dog. Canelo wants to be involved in EVERYTHING: cooking, cleaning, folding laundry, sweeping. He makes a great supervisor. He'll steals a flip flops, sock, or shoes whenever he gets the chance. He talks back with attitude, gets distracted every 3 seconds. Things Canelo LOVES: GRASS. Truly obsessed. He would spend all day rolling around in it if he could. Cucumbers Water and staying hydrated Teddy bears Playing catch Laying like a little frog ("Ranita" became his nickname because he sploots with his legs stretched out behind him) Right now he's a naughty puppy! Eager to learn and food and treat motivated. He knows: sit, paw, high five, and twirl - all in Spanish. He will thrive with a patient home willing to continue his training and help him adjust to life in the US. An older dog buddy will help him gorw into a wonderful K9. Canelo's breed is unknown. Whatever his mix is he's lovable and unforgettable. The hardest part about puppies like Canelo is knowing how close they came to not making it. He should have never been that thin. Never been that sick. But despite everything, he held on so tightly to life, and now he greets every day with joy. Canelo flies into San Francisco the morning of June 23rd and needs a foster starting that day. He deserves a soft landing, patience, safety, and people who will laugh at his chaos and love him through all his growing pains. Help us find Canelo a loving home.
