About Dixie

Contact the foster at, heg9hc@virginia.edu Temperament & Socialization: - Warms up to both men and women very quickly - Becomes a loyal shadow to her people almost immediately - A massive cuddle bug — loves being close and affectionate - Loves car rides with the window down - Gets the cutest little tippy toes when she is excited - Comes running like a gentle cannon when you call for her Dog Compatibility: - Currently living with a 1.5-year-old high-energy dog and gets along great - Plays enthusiastically but corrects her foster sibling gently when she needs a break. Will snarl when her foster brother pushes her too far, but her tail stays wagging the entire time/positive body language - Patient and appropriate in her communication with other dogs Training & Obedience: - Knows her name, sit, paw, and stay - Loves to walk and leashes up fairly well — some pulling but very manageable. Walked great on a double leash beside our dog. - Potty trained and crate trained; only barked in the crate when she needed a bathroom break. Goes and stands by the door when she needs to potty. - Knows no and is actively learning not to jump up — responds well with consistent redirection - Only gets on furniture or dog beds when explicitly invited Food & Toys: - Somewhat indifferent about her food but is highly treat motivated — great for training! This opposes current notes, but she has been super motivated by treats for us. - Loves bones and will happily entertain herself with one - Shows interest in toys and is incredibly gentle when picking them up - Prefers fetch over tug — more of a retriever at heart than a wrestler Energy & Adaptability: - Overall super chill and easygoing — her energy spikes when her foster brother riles her up, but she settles right back down - Has not chewed or gotten into anything she isn't supposed to - Has plenty of energy but reads the room well and knows when it's time to settle down - Spent a full workday happily resting under a desk, only getting up for potty breaks Alone Time: - We work from home so her tolerance for being alone is largely untested - Did stay in a soft crate for a short period while one foster parent was out — she appeared to do well, though the other foster parent was nearby outside so we cannot confirm if she was fully settled or crying Kids: - Has not had direct interactions with children before - Does sometimes jump up when excited, so supervised introductions with young kids would be recommended until the jumping is fully worked through
