About Iggy

Iggy is a truly special dog who needs placement in a home experienced with large, guardian-type breeds. She deserves a home where she can truly be part of the family — relaxing on the couch, by your side, and living as a devoted companion. She has come a long way from her past and has consistently shown that beneath her strong exterior is a deeply loving dog. Iggy is potty trained, crate trained, affectionate, goofy, loyal, and an absolute cuddlebug. She loves attention, enjoys being petted, and especially loves tummy rubs. Once she trusts you, she bonds deeply and becomes incredibly sweet and connected to her people. That said, Iggy is not a beginner dog. She is over 100 pounds, extremely strong, and naturally protective. She can be reactive to dogs and strangers if not properly managed and requires structured, confident handling with clear boundaries and consistent leadership. She thrives with slow, thoughtful introductions and handlers who understand how to advocate for her space and set her up for success. Iggy is dog-friendly in appropriate settings — she gives play bows, initiates play, enjoys walking with other dogs, and has done well in foster settings with structured crate-and-rotate management. She can walk past other dogs in the house on leash just fine, but is not comfortable with dogs approaching her directly or invading her space too quickly. She needs careful introductions, respectful canine companions, and owners committed to proper management and continued training. Ideal home includes: A securely fenced yard (she should not be left loose in yards with lower fencing due to her drive toward birds, squirrels, and environmental stimuli) A calm, structured environment with low traffic in and out An adult-only home or one with older, dog-experienced teens A physically capable handler who is open to continued positive training to support her leash skills Experience with large guardian-type breeds Iggy walks best on a Halti/Gentle Leader - she is a size 4, which provides the safest control for her. She is still refining her skills on it, especially when encountering distractions such as birds, squirrels, or reactive dogs. On a standard leash, collar, or harness, she is very strong and can pull with significant force, so proper human strength and size is essential. With the right leadership, consistency, and understanding, Iggy is an incredibly loving, loyal companion who simply wants to belong.
