Gianna, one of our miracle kitties, is ready for adoption! She can now run and jump high and eat all she wants, although much of the time she simply likes to follow her foster mom around. Gianna was taken into foster on Valentine's Day of this year after she ended up in the shelter. Not only was she in an advanced state of pregnancy, but she was obviously having difficulty breathing. She was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia that allowed her intestines to migrate into her chest and press on her lungs. On April 6th, when her babies were almost 6 weeks old, Gianna underwent surgery to repair the hernia at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in NYC (through their AMC to the Rescue program for rescue groups in NY, NJ, and PA). Thankfully, none of the many possible surgical complications that could occur did occur. After a few days of hospitalization, Gianna came home to convalesce under the care of her foster mom. She is now healed, her very long scar is fading, and her fur that had to be shaved for surgery is growing back. Gianna now has complete freedom in her foster home, including on the screened porch from which she happily watches outdoor wildlife. She loves her mom and likes her dad (she sleeps with them) but would be happier if there were fewer kitties in her home. She was slowly introduced to the other cats and tolerates them, but she would also be perfectly happy as a single cat.
