About Maple

Meet Maple—a small Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and subtle charm. She’s around 2–3 years old, weighing in at a petite 17 pounds, and she’s earned her rest after surviving a tough hoarding situation in East Texas and raising a litter of pups. Now that her puppies are safe and settled with families of their own, Maple is ready for her chance at a calm, loving home. Maple is a true “cat-dog.” She enjoys affection and will curl up close for a cuddle, but she’s just as content to find a quiet spot and watch the world go by on her own terms. Every so often, she lets loose with a playful streak—especially when there’s a ball to chase. Her confidence is growing, but busy environments can still feel overwhelming, so she needs a patient adopter willing to help her learn that there’s nothing to fear. Trust takes time, but the reward with Maple is well worth the wait. She gets along well with other pets, particularly calm and smaller animals, and does her best sleeping in her crate at night as long as she’s near her people. Crating during the day isn’t her favorite—she can get anxious, especially if left alone for long stretches, and loud noises like garbage trucks can unsettle her. Ideally, Maple’s new home will be a calm, open environment with someone who’s home most of the day—retired, working remotely, or simply able to keep Maple close. She’ll likely need a few meet-and-greets to feel safe, but once she bonds with you, you’ll see a loving, affectionate companion with more heart than you might expect. If you’re ready to give a quiet, resilient dog the space and patience she deserves, Maple is waiting to meet you. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
