Diamond was abandoned tied to a fence in the early morning hours and brought to safety after a caller witnessed the incident and called our officers. Since arriving at the shelter, she has shown herself to be a very fearful but incredibly gentle girl who is trying hard to trust the people around her. Though she can be a bit nervous in new situations, Diamond consistently seeks comfort from handlers, takes treats gently, and allows handling even when nervous. She appears highly food motivated and responds well to patience, soft interactions, and slow introductions. She has met several dogs and done well. Behaviorally, Diamond is shy and fearful at first, often showing wide eyes, tucked or low tail, and ears back when approached or moved through unfamiliar spaces. Despite this, she repeatedly chooses to approach people for comfort and reassurance. She tolerates petting well, rests her head on handlers for support, and walks nicely on leash once she gains confidence. With new people she startles easily with touch and needs time to adjust, but her soft demeanor and willingness to engage suggest she will continue blossoming with a rescue partner who has a foster willing to let her settle in at her own pace. Once she is comfortable with someone, she greets them enthusiastically and is their best pal. I went to another dog and she sat in the corner of the crate whimpering and pawing at it. I took other dog out, came back in and took her out. She met two dogs and did well, interested but then got distracted by sniffing grass. Went to play yard, she gets spurts of excitement where she will run up to you and sit with ears back like she's about to go into zoomies, but doesn't. Videos uploaded 05/11 per staff At initial introduction yesterday, Diamond kept her head low, ears back, eyes wide. She would give intermittent small tail wags but stayed toward the back of her kennel. She became more loose and brave regarding interactions with treats involved. Was snatchy with treats when held between fingers but very gentle taking them from an open palm. She allowed a full exam and x-rays to be taken while keeping calm voices, slow movements, and offering treats. She did not show any signs of aggression, only fear. Today at recheck, she was still unsure coming into the exam room but loosened up with treats. Opened interaction with a treat which was very gently taken. Diamond allowed all handling/exam and gently seeked out attention by sitting next to me and resting her head in my hands. Again did not show any signs of aggression. 5/11 per staff Got Diamond out for an exam and intake today. She came to the front of her crate when I kneeled down and gave me some low tail wags. I needed a treat lure to leash her and once leashed she came right out with low tail wags, wide soft eyes, ears back. When we got to the door to leave the eval room she pulled hard back on the leash, wide eyes, ears back, tucked tail. With a treat trail we made it through the door. She walked the rest of the way with a low tail, ears back, wide eyes, tense body. Once in the exam room she opened up more and said Hi to the staff members in there with soft eyes, ears back, low tail and some wags. She tolerated her full exam. When it was time to get her weight we needed some treats to get her on the scale and needed to lift her hind end up which she tolerated with wide eyes, ears back, tense body. Back in the exam room she gave a few stress yawns. We were able to get her fully vaccinated with some cream cheese spread on the floor. When attempting to microchip she head whipped open mouth and bit the leash for a second, tail tucked, ears back, wide eyes. We decided to end it there. I took her outside briefly before returning to her crate. Outside she had a tucked tail, ears back, wide eyes, tense body. Would come over when I called her and took treats gently with an open palm. Walking back in her head was low, ears back, tail tucked. She went right into her crate and I was able to remove my leash easily. 05/11 went in and opened her crate, Diamond was curled up int he back. She seemed a bit stiff but then her tail wagged. She then walked up to me, I pet her, and her tail was low wagging. Seems fearful but sweet. 05/10/2026 | Behavioral Was asked by medical to get Diamond out as they tried but were unable to. She was at the back of her crate, ears back, wider eyes. Came to the front slowly an took a treat snatchy through the bars. Was able to leash her with a treat lure. Once leashed she move to the back of her crate, wide eyes, ears back. Came out of her crate for a treat trail, low still tail, tense body, ears back, wide eyes. I kneeled down and she came over, soft wide eyes, ears back low tail and took treat gently from me (she does better with open palm). Tolerated me petting her, softer eyes, low still tail, ears back. Rested her head on my knee. She tolerate the doctor doing her exam with wider eyes, ears back, tenes body, low still tail. She is very food motivated. We needed to get X-Rays done, walking out of the eval room she pulled back on the leash and bucked a bit, wide eyes, ears back, tense body, tucked tail. I offered her some cheese and we made it through the door way with a small treat trail. She walked the rest of the way to the xray room on a loose leash, ears back, head low, tail low, tense body. She took a treat from the nurse in the room and allowed being picked up to go on the xray table with wide eyes, ears back, tucked tail. Once on the table we tolerated us keeping her still with the same body language. After everything was done we walked back to the eval room with the same body language as walking out and she went right into her crate. 5/10/2026 1:16pm starts growling but still was able to put a leash on her and walks well on the leash. she is very scared, she flinches everytime you would touch her, needs time to adjust ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia and is open for adoptions daily from 10am-6pm.
