About Diego
Diego has had a rough start, losing his home in Alabama when his owner could no longer care for him and ending up at a shelter. Rescued just in time, he found a foster in New York, but his first adoption didn’t work out—an active, strong dog like Diego needs more space and structure than his adopter could offer. Despite a history that left him nervous around sudden movements and unfamiliar with leashes, Diego has proven himself remarkably smart, learning quickly and engaging eagerly with those around him. He loves people, including kids, and shows real loyalty and affection. He picks up new commands fast, is house trained, and is working on better leash manners and obedience. Diego does best with adults and children, but cannot go to a home with cats due to his high prey drive. He’s also a skilled jumper, so a secure yard is a must, and any introductions to other dogs need to be slow and thoughtful, preferably with dogs his own size. Somewhere out there is the committed adopter who can give Diego the guidance, safety, and consistency he’s never had. He’s not a difficult dog—just one waiting for the right person to show him the life he deserves. Click apply to start the adoption process.
