About Mojo

EMERGENCY PLACEMENT DEADLINE CLOSE OF BUSINESS Friday May 15, 2026 AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION ONLY THROUGH PACC Name: Mojo Animal ID: A836143 Age: 3 years Weight: 68.3 lbs. Web Link: 24petconnect.com/PimaAdoptablePets/Details/PIMA/A836143 About: Meet Mojo, a strikingly handsome 3-year-old Pitty featuring a gorgeous blue and white coat pattern that is sure to turn heads. While his name might make you think of a tiny Chihuahua, this Mojo is a solid, medium-sized bundle of personality who has unfortunately had a bit of a revolving door experience with the shelter. He is currently looking for a very specific, dedicated home to help him break that cycle for good and keep him safe. Mojo’s journey has been a bit of a rollercoaster. He first came to us as a stray, and while he was briefly reunited with his owners, he eventually found his way back as an escape artist who clearly struggled with containment. After a successful stint in a foster home and nearly a year in an adoptive home, Mojo returned to us following a bite incident involving a child. His previous family was heartbroken to see him go, describing him as a wonderful dog in almost every other way. They noted that Mojo lived peacefully with other dogs and even cats! Mojo is a great dog who simply has some clear boundaries that need to be respected. To ensure he never has to see the inside of a shelter kennel again, his ideal home should look like this: • Adults or Older Teens: Because Mojo was uncomfortable with the tight hugs of a small child, he is looking for a home with no children or teens 15 and older who can understand and respect a dog’s body language and personal space. • Resource Management: Mojo does show some guarding tendencies when it comes to items like food and treats. If you have other pets, his meals should be served in a completely separate area, and empty bowls should be picked up to keep the peace. His previous family found this very manageable with a solid routine! • The Great Escape Prevention: Mojo is a bit of a Houdini. He requires a very secure yard and a family that will supervise his outdoor time to ensure he stays safely behind the fence. It's not all about the rules with Mojo—he is a smart, engaged companion! He is already a pro at his tricks and will proudly show off his sit, shake, and lay down for a treat. He is a loyal, affectionate boy who just needs a family that gets him. Mojo is currently on a deadline and is looking for a hero to help him start his true forever chapter. If you have a quiet home, a secure yard, and a heart for misunderstood dogs, Mojo is ready to show you just how wonderful he can be. Available for adoption only through PACC. Interested parties: Must visit PACC before the COB Friday 05/15/2026 deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with. Home Management Plan enrolled in Starfish Forever Foster” program offered by Helping Orphaned Mutts Succeed • enrollment into health insurance and cover the premium • assist with food and behavioral support • supplies; crate and toys if needed • The adopter will be asked to sign a promissory note to repay 50% of the support given if they rehome or surrender later No Kids or Older Kids: 15 years+ • Mojo is not suitable for a home with children. • Reason: Bite History: • Incident Details: moderate bite to a 5-year-old child in the face when the child was hugging the dog. • Management: For safety and comfort, they should be in an adult-only home where interaction can be calm, predictable, and structured. Resource Guards Items or Food: • Circumstances: seen in previous home with other dogs • Mojo may guard valued items such as food, toys, bones, or resting spaces. • Management: Do not attempt to take items directly from their mouth or reach into their food bowl. Instead, trade with a high-value treat or toy to encourage voluntary release or when picking up a food bowl, call the dog away from the bowl into another room before picking up. • Feeding Protocol: Feed them separately from other pets and in a quiet, low-traffic area. Allow them to eat undisturbed. Remove food bowls only after they have finished and moved away. • Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to wear a muzzle can be beneficial during resource-handling practice or when introducing high-value items around people or other animals. • Professional Support: Work with a qualified trainer or behaviorist to develop safe management and counter conditioning techniques. • Recognize Warning Signals: Be aware of early signs of guarding behavior, such as stiffening, hovering over items, growling, or showing teeth. Respect these signals by calmly creating distance and redirecting their focus. Escape Risk • Mojo has a strong curiosity and may attempt to explore beyond confinement or containment areas. • Supervision Required: Always supervise outdoor time, including in fenced yards. Ensure gates and doors are securely latched before allowing them outside. • Preventive Measures: Use a properly fitted martingale collar and standard clip leash during walks. Avoid leaving them unattended in any unsecured area, including open garages, yards or vehicles. • Longline Use: When spending time outdoors in an enclosed yard, use a longline to give them extra space to explore while keeping them safe and under control. Do NOT use tie outs, leash should be held and maintained by the handler at all times. Should NOT be used in unenclosed or public spaces. Containment Issues: • Mojo has a known history of escaping enclosed spaces or roaming when unsupervised.
