About Goldy

Hello! I was surrendered to the shelter when my owner could no longer keep me. I am sweet but I am also fearful. Everyone at the shelter is trying to help me adjust and they can tell I have the potential to warm up and blossom in the right spot. Is that spot with you in a calm, loving home? Insights from my foster friends and adventure buddies: At the shelter, Goldy can appear very fearful but once outside or on a walk she is very happy and energetic. She loves to play in grass and eat chicken or whipped cream treats. She comes out of her shell completely when outside of the shelter. She is the sweetest dog and is so goofy. She has the time of her life on walks and would be an amazing companion on any hike. She makes me laugh when she turns around and smiles at you while walking. She perks up immediately when given any praise and just loves being with you. Although quite fearful, nervous and seemingly shy, she does seem like she will warm up to people and it would not take long. She loves her kibble and will take it from my or my teen's hand and started doing this within a day of having her. She hates her medication and it takes a while for her to get it down. She gives death stares for an hour after. She really enjoys walks. She does not really like people putting her harness on her around her middle and so we switched to clipping on a leash to her Martingale collar. She walks well with a slack leash and close by and looks up for guidance when I stop, but don't let that fool you. She can be quite strong and wants to bolt after squirrels and rabbits and so having a firm grasp on the leash at all times is best. Her tail is least tucked and even up during walks. This has been her favorite time of day. She gets excited when she sees me grab a leash. She is scared of cars and we always stop a walk for a car to drive by. She seems toilet trained. We had no accidents, except when she was not feeling well overnight. Though fearful, she is very curious and likes to explore different areas of my place. She also likes to sniff my dog and see what my dog is sniffing on walks. Goldy likes toys. She very quickly worked out a puzzle feeder with her kibble inside and knew to roll a treat dispensing ball to get her kibble out as well. Goldy has a great sense of hearing and some noises startle her. She can hear music playing in people's houses well before I notice it, because she stops to listen. It is best to decrease any loud sounds or sudden movements around her. By the end of her stay with us, she was coming up to me for head pats and scratches behind her ears.
