Persival is a gentle little soul who seems to take comfort in having friends nearby. One of the sweetest moments staff observed was him stopping to greet his dog siblings along the kennel aisle, wagging softly and sharing little nose kisses before continuing on his walk. While the shelter environment has clearly been overwhelming for him at times, he continues to show quiet signs that he wants to trust. He walks slowly and cautiously, takes treats gently from your hand, and allows handling without issue once he feels safe. Underneath the nervousness is a sensitive dog who seems to be trying very hard. Persival is not the kind of dog who is going to burst into a room demanding attention on day one. He is the kind who will likely blossom with patience, routine, and kindness. He has shown interest in other dogs, enjoys calm encouragement, and has gradually become more comfortable during outings and one-on-one time. Staff have noticed that he can be hesitant in new situations, but he continues to make progress and quietly lean into the idea that people can be safe. For someone willing to move at his pace, Persival has all the makings of an incredibly rewarding companion.
