About Nesta

Our adoption application can be found at the bottom of this pet's bio. Once your application has been approved, we can arrange a meet & greet with you and Nesta. Nesta is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and is eligible for meet & greets! Meet Nesta! Nesta is a 3 year old female / catahoula leopard dog mix who currently weighs 50 pounds. Nesta is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and ready to find her forever home. Nesta was found with her family living under an abandoned house. Her mom was a lab mix and her dad was a catahoula. Thankfully, we were able to find fosters and get the entire family to safety. Nesta is dog friendly and currently lives with other dogs in her foster home. She would LOVE a doggie companion in her forever home. She needs time to warm up to other dogs and does best with slow introductions. We would say that she has a moderate energy level. She enjoys playing with the dogs in her foster home, but is also able to settle easily. She's really good at matching the other dog's energy during play. Nesta would prefer a home without cats. Nesta can be a bit shy some times and timid with loud or sudden noises. She would do best in a home with older children who are able to be respectful of boundaries. Nesta will walk on a leash, but she's hesitant and timid. She would THRIVE in a home where she can just play in the backyard. Nesta is fully potty and crate trained! She is sure to only go potty outside. She is crated when her foster mom is away from the home for work or errands. She is also able to be left out to free roam for short periods of time. Here's a small blurb about Nesta from her foster mom: Nesta is a soft-hearted, slightly mysterious girl. Equal parts shy woodland creature and playful bestie once you’re in her circle.Nesta is the sweetest girl and will look up at you lovingly with puppy dog eyes when she wants a bite of what you're eating. She's SUCH an easy dog if you can get past the timidness. She enjoys getting pets from her humans. When people come over, her initial reaction is to go to her safe space (her crate) but she will come out and greet them after she knows everyone is safe. She may start off a little unsure (think: cautious deer energy), but give her patience, gentle introductions, and a steady routine, and you’ll watch her bloom. With other dogs, she truly comes alive. She needs a canine companion to help her feel safe and confident. She loves to play (especially with her foster siblings!) and will happily match their energy, then settle down when tired. Nesta walks timidly on leash but stays close, doesn’t pull, and isn’t reactive out and about. She’s fully potty trained with a consistent schedule and does great in a crate. She’s incredibly smart, already knows “sit,” and picks up on new cues quickly. And when she gives you those big, pleading puppy dog eyes? Game over. That said, Nesta is a sensitive girl. She can be easily spooked and needs slow, respectful approaches. Her ideal home? One with patience, structure, and another playful dog to guide her. Likely best with older kids who understand her gentle, timid nature. She’s not reactive to strangers or men, just needs a moment to observe before joining in. Nesta isn’t the “instant best friend” type but she’s the kind of dog who chooses you over time. And that kind of love? It hits different. 💜 Nesta would do best with an experienced, patient adopter who understands shy or sensitive dogs and is willing to give her time to decompress and build trust. She is not suited for first-time dog owners, homes with cats, or households with young children due to her timid nature and tendency to startle easily. She thrives in a structured, calm environment and will need consistency, routine, and continued guidance to truly blossom into her best self.
