Whirly was caught during a TNR project in Mechanicsburg right next to Cumberland Valley HS. After getting him fixed, we found he is very friendly and would do much better in a safe indoor home instead of returning outside. With how fast he adapted to indoor life, we believe he grew up near people or was abandoned by a previous owner. He may also simply be one of the last stragglers of a nearby colony that was relocated years ago, which means he has been alone outside for quite some time. Whirly is a senior gentleman, around 9-10 years old. We were first told that he was a baby, under 1 year, and believed this because his energy and playfulness were closer to that of a much younger cat. He will run and jump, enjoys chasing his laser light, and loves catnip, squeeze treats, and nighttime cuddles. When held, he will purr so hard that his whole body vibrates and he sounds like a helicopter taking off (hence the name Whirly). Whirly is neutered and up to date on all his shots. He gets along with our other cats, tolerates well-behaved dogs, and has been OK with small children. He did test positive for FIV, but with his sweet and gentle nature he is perfectly safe living with other cats. What this means is that he has a weakened immune system and will need a loving family willing to monitor his health with regular vet checkups as he enters his twilight years. In exchange for this, he will be a sweet and loving family member for anyone willing to open their hearts to him.
