📌 Important Information • All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. They're listed in Oregon for adoption purposes as that's where our rescue is based. • Dogs fly to Portland (PDX) once adoption is approved, arriving within 2–4 weeks. ✈️ This reduces stress for them and ensures safe travel. 💛 About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexico’s streets. Our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, and adoption into loving homes. Since 2019: 🐶 500+ dogs adopted • ✂️ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered 👉 Interested in adopting? PLEASE FILL OUT APPLICATION AT www.bapbr.org ⚠️ We’re unable to respond to requests that come through Petfinder ************************** 🐾 Meet GALLETA 🐾 • AGE: ~1 years old • WEIGHT: ~7 lbs • BREED(S): Yorkshire Terrier - Chihuahua mix (our best guess since they’re rescues!) • GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, as long as they're taught to respect the dog’s belongings and boundaries. • HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training. Galleta was found lost in the bushes, so tangled in leaves and branches she'd stopped moving. When our foster Erika took her in, she was skeletal and terrified—of people, of brooms (the scars of prior abuse still fresh), of the world that had hurt her so badly. Her tiny 7 lb. frame trembled at everything she saw. Erika understood this would take patience. She didn't push. She just showed up consistently and taught her that not all people hurt. For some days, all Galleta did was sleep, as if she was catching up on months of rest stolen by the dangers of living on the street. And slowly but surely, the real Galleta started to come out. "She's becoming more sociable, though she still likes her space," Erika shares. "She responds to my affection with little bites and licks—it's so adorable! She's still learning how to show love in her own unique way." It's as if Galleta is speaking a language she's slowly relearning, trying to express gratitude in the only way she knows how. One of her favorite activities is playing and sloshing around in water—it's her happy place where she can leave behind her fear and let her playful side out. She also walks beautifully on leash and loves her daily walks, where she can explore the world while feeling safe in the company of her human. She adores cats and would be wonderful in a household with one. She barks at other dogs from a distance—still cautious, still protective of herself—but she's fine with them when she has the chance to get acquainted properly. And though she hasn't had much exposure to children yet, we're confident she'll do wonderfully with patient, respectful kids who understand her needs. Galleta was lost for so long—both literally and in her heart. But there's no doubt about her future. Given time and the constant, warm presence of someone who stays, she will become a well-adapted dog. Those fears that grip her now will loosen. Her name means cookie in English, and just like a cookie, small and precious, the undoubtable sweetness beneath the trauma will shine brighter with each day of safety. She's looking for someone who understands that the greatest gift you can give is simply showing up, day after day, and proving you won't leave. Will you be that person for her? ************************* 📝 Ready to apply?
