About Cali
Cali, also known as Cali-girl, Cal-Cal, and Callie-kins, is a small Long-Haired Dachshund with a giant heart and a complicated past. After spending her first years in an abusive home, she still radiates a zest for lifeāeager for adventure, quick with affection, and always ready to snuggle up with her human. Despite emotional scars, her spirit isn't broken; she's playful, quirky (glass licking is a favorite habit), and often rolls over for belly rubs with an open invitation to love. Cali thrives as the center of attention and hasn't fully integrated with other dogsāher current pack never truly accepted her, so she keeps to herself and doesnāt sleep, eat, or play with them. Her ideal home is one where she is the only pet and not around children, as jealousy and competition set her on edge. She enjoys water play, car rides, and walksāthough leash manners need work as she's a determined explorer prone to pulling. Cali is mostly house trained, having relied on indoor potty pads because of predators, and sometimes marks over other scents instinctually. She's highly food motivated, driven to please, and picks up on encouragement quickly, but doesnāt know formal commands yet. Because of her history, patience at doorways is keyāshe bolts when startled, and you need to reassure her that mistakes arenāt met with anger. With a long coat, Cali requires regular grooming (she dislikes having her toes handled), and needs her anal glands expressed approximately every six weeks. Sheās a little overweight and tends to snort and snoreāa noisy but endearing companion. With the right person or couple committed to making her the center of their world, Cali will lavish you with love and devotion. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Cali
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Dachshunds like Cali do well in homes where they can receive plenty of attention and companionship. A quieter household with a stable routine will help her thrive, especially after her difficult past.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Cali, as a Dachshund, doesn't require extensive outdoor space, but she does enjoy daily walks and some supervised exploration. A secure yard is nice but not essential if she gets regular exercise.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Dachshunds can be sensitive and sometimes reactive to unpredictable situations, so Cali is best matched to homes without children, especially since she prefers being the only one doted on.
