Planter
AvailablePlanter is a young, large male German Shepherd Dog/mixed breed currently in Sacramento, CA. He is neutered and has a gentle, calm personality for his age. Planter shows an ability to get along with other dogs and children, but will need careful introductions to any cats in the home.
About Planter
Planter won’t reveal his whole self right away, especially in a shelter setting. He’s not naturally showering people with affection, and he might never be that outwardly exuberant dog—but after a short adjustment, he’ll surprise you with a quiet closeness and the occasional tiny kiss. When Planter recently spent three days in foster, it took him about a day to settle in. After that, he really wanted to be near his people. He’s satisfied to simply lie beside you if you’re busy, but he does struggle with anxiety when left alone, likely due to all the changes he’s been through. He’ll need someone willing to help him build confidence with some patience and consistency. He’s got a gentle nature for a young, large dog, is food-motivated, smart, and generally calm. Planter gets along well with other dogs, and was comfortable with an 11-year-old child in his foster home. He isn’t a match for cats, at least at the outset, since he can show a strong prey drive; careful and slow introductions might help over time, but proceed with caution. Planter is looking for an adopter, foster, or rescue, and he’s ready for someone who can offer both structure and understanding during his transition. His adoption fee has already been covered. Questions about Planter
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Planter, being a German Shepherd Dog/mixed breed, does best in a stable home that can provide structure, attention, and room to relax. Ideally, a family ready to spend time with him and help him build confidence would suit him well.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
As a large German Shepherd mix, Planter would benefit from a yard or access to regular walks and outdoor play. He enjoys spending time with his people, so shared outdoor activities will help meet his needs.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Planter has already done well with at least one 11-year-old child, and German Shepherd mixes usually do fine with children, especially if the kids are respectful and introductions are supervised.
