Meet River River is a giant fluffy marshmallow with approximately 47 pounds of love and maybe... 2 confused brain cells currently buffering. This handsome Bernese Mountain Dog mix came to us after his owner sadly passed away. River and his siblings arrived needing quite a bit of TLC, and while we don’t know the full story, it’s clear they were deeply loved. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming, and thankfully River got a second chance to start fresh. And WOW has he come a long way. The boy who arrived looking rough around the edges is now healthier, happier, fluffier, and fully embracing his "big lovable goofball" era. Toys? "Meh." Zoomies? Briefly activated. VERY briefly. Adventure? "Actually... can we go back?" Personal space? Absolutely not. He’d prefer to sit directly in your lap like a 12-pound Chihuahua. River is sweet, social, affectionate, and incredibly dog friendly in playgroups, but outside the shelter he still seems unsure of himself and looks to people for reassurance. He’s the kind of dog who acts like he wants freedom... then immediately says, "Wait. This is scary. Hold me." · Knows "sit" · Snack motivated · Dog friendly · Loves people · Emotionally somewhere between "majestic bear" and "lost toddler at Target" River is AVAILABLE for adoption OR foster through SPCA Cincinnati. Honestly, we think a patient home environment could help this sweet boy continue building confidence and finally relax into the good life he deserves.
