Meet Whiskey, a 6-year-old, 32-pound Australian Shepherd with a soft heart and a quietly joyful personality waiting to shine. Whiskey is shy at first and takes a little time to feel comfortable in new situations, but once he learns he can trust you, he transforms into a wiggly bundle of happiness who loves being near his people. Whiskey gets along great with other dogs and truly thrives in their company. Being around canine friends helps him feel more confident and secure, and he looks to them for reassurance as he navigates the world. Because of this, he requires another confident dog in the home to help support his continued growth and confidence. He is currently on anxiety medication to help take the edge off as he continues building confidence and adjusting to new environments. Whiskey walks well on a leash and is learning how to properly explore new places at his own pace. With patience and gentle encouragement, he continues to come out of his shy shell and gain confidence in new environments. A meet and greet at the shelter will be needed to ensure it is a good fit for everyone involved. Whiskey is looking for a calm, understanding home that will give him the time he needs to build trust and continue blossoming into the happy, affectionate companion he is meant to be. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly.
