About a month ago, we got a call about two dogs whose owner had sadly passed away. The family didn’t want them, so they were placed in boarding while a decision was made. We said yes immediately to both—Hennessy, a 4-year-old Border Collie mix, and Hay, an 8–10-year-old terrier blend. Not long after, we were told Hay had already been euthanized. The reason given was that he had always been with the owner who passed, while Hennessy came later. We were heartbroken and frustrated, especially knowing we were willing to take him. Hennessy came to us and has spent the last month waiting patiently at the shelter. She’s incredibly sweet, very smart, and well-trained—truly an amazing dog. Then last week, we got shocking news… Hay was still alive. When the family had planned to take him in for euthanasia, life intervened—first a serious car accident involving a family member, then a job loss that made them unable to afford it. When they asked the boarding facility for help, they refused. As soon as we found out, we brought him to the shelter. And Hennessy’s reaction? Pure joy. It truly feels like he was meant to come to us—not just for his own second chance, but to help save his life too.
