About Mellow

**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics. Hello, my name is Mello, or Mello Yello as my foster mom calls me. I am a male Chihuahua that weighs in at around 15 pounds. I am around 9-10 years of age and an absolute sweetheart! My mom passed away and left me and another dog, Homeward Bound has her as well, with a need for a new home. This rescue immediately agreed to take us and find us a new home. I spent some time at the vets getting vetted, neutered, and a much needed dental. I only lost 3 teeth during the dental so I still have a lot of healthy teeth. I did have to spend a few extra days at the vets getting IV treatments due to having some gastric issues that also caused me to lose some weight. My foster mom picked me up along with some tummy medicine that once I got back into a home was far less necessary. I am a bit of a sensitive soul that likes stability in a home of my own. There is what appears to be a birth defect with my left eye. It doesn't appear to affect my vision and my ability to explore my surroundings. My foster mom didn't ask about my eye but the rescue may have more information about it. I do okay in a kennel even though I don't really like them. My foster mom put a soft toy in along with a bed and a soft blanket and after I go out first thing in the morning I go back in on my own, just don't close the door. When I went into foster care I came from a home where it appears I got human food. My foster mom refuses to give into my urging her to continue that diet. She instead has me eating a Lamb and Rice dog food, I grudgingly eat it. The good news is I gained back some of the weight I had lost. I love going outside and will try to let you know when I need to go potty. I love just laying in a warm place in the sun. I love to explore outside but have shown no desire to leave the fenced in yard. I would do better with adults only due to my being a Chi and easily stressed. I would prefer a low key home where I can have someone to pay a lot of attention to me, which I will reciprocate! I was in foster with two dogs older than me and one, larger, younger than me and did just fine. I don't however like to share toys which I love to love on. Speaking of loving on, I have this habit when stressed to want to suck and love on a blanket. Foster mom is not sure why I do this. When I am loving my blanket I don't want any other animal touching me and prefer humans not touch me but I will tolerate it. I do growl a warning but have never actually snapped at anyone. I will make a great dog for someone who wants an easy going co-pilot in their lives! Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
