Annie was named after Annie Chambers, lending her a name with some history from Kansas City’s River Market. She was found as a stray downtown, having just given birth in the basement of an old brick building. This place was tough for people to reach, so it took months of patient feeding and watching before Annie finally brought her kittens out to safety. Two of her three babies were caught quickly, but the third was hesitant and stuck close to Annie until finally caught days later. At her vet appointment, it turned out someone had shot her—there was a metal pellet lodged under her skin. Now that she’s spayed and no longer surviving outside, Annie’s settled into foster care where she’s content but still not fond of being picked up.
