About Fellow

Say "hello" to Fellow (ACCT-A-249145), a sensitive and sweet soul looking for a patient companion to lead him on his next great adventure! Fellow first came to us as a shy and overwhelmed pup, but he has been making wonderful strides every single day. While he can be a bit vocal when he has something to say, his true nature is friendly, cuddly, and playful. He is the kind of dog who appreciates a slow approach, and once he trusts you, he really lets his personality shine. One of Fellow's most charming breakthroughs was discovering the magic of squeaky toys. Seeing his ears perk up and watching him chase a toy around the yard is guaranteed to make you smile. He's even started soliciting gentle pets on his chest and shoulders from his favorite people. Fellow is a smart learner who is working hard on his leash skills. He has transitioned from being a bit nervous on walks to walking beautifully on a loose leash. He's also had the chance to meet other dogs and has shown himself to be tolerant and avoidant. If you are looking for a loyal friend who will reward your patience with cuddles and toy-filled play sessions, Fellow is waiting to meet you! When he is in the crate and I am working in the office, he will whine and cry. If I let him out, he curiously sniffs around the room and is quiet and solicits pets. Per staff 5/6: He's much more relaxed, walks on a loose leash, no longer darting to get away and create distance. He's soliciting touch now! Per staff 5/5: For his mid day walk I was able to leash and used a treat trail to come out of the crate. Wide eyes, ears to the side and tail down. He went potty and tail came up to mid way. Fellow does big back leg kicks after going potty and then a shake off. Easily went into the crate and i removed leash with my hand. Staff attempted to take out for his last walk. They were able to leash and tried a treat trail but he would not eat the treats. So i wanted to see if he would come out for me. Easily leash and came right out of the crate without using any treats. Went into the smaller pen and dropped his leash, he would move away and avoid eye contact if staff or i looked at him. He went to the bathroom. I then picked up a stuffy toy that squeaks and his ears perked up. I tossed the toy and he ran after it and began to play! He even came over to me and i was able to do gentle petting on his chest/shoulder. He went back into the crate easily and i removed the leash with my hand. Per staff 5/5: When I walked into the office this morning to take fellow out. His eyes were softer then yesterday but still wide and ears back. I tossed treat in and he ate it. When I opened the crate door and crouched down he gave a low short growl. I tossed another couple treats in and ate them. I was able to leash with a treat lure. He needed light leash pressure to come out of the crate. We went to the yard and walked around it. His crate was clean this morning and he went potty outside. his tail came untucked and he did a shake off as we walked in the yard. He went right back in the crate and i was able to remove the leash with my hand has he ate a treat. Per staff 5/5: Moved to my office last night- whale eye in kennel, flinched when leashed. Ate chicken. Darting at the end of the leash if I paid any attention to him, tucked tail whale eye and ears pasted back. Lip licks. If I ignored him he walked with a hunched body on a loose leash. Went into the crate easily, slowly removed the leash using chicken. Per staff 5/4: Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed when I approached his kennel. Tense body, wide eyes darting and ears pasted back. Leash Skills: Closed the guillotine door. He sat up and leaned away. Eyes darting, ears pasted back and tense body. Tossed a treat in and he ate it. Was able to do a treat lure to leash up. Tail tucked, hyper vigilant and ears back. Flinches at loud noises, going around a corner he began to panic and back up on the leash. Sociability: Asocial. Stayed in the corner of the yard, kept looking around with tense body ears back and tail down but not tucked. I tossed a few treats close to him and he ate them. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Sedgley. Tense, tolerant and avoidant. Return to Kennel: Went right into the kennel and immediately laid down on the bed. Did not have the leash clipped. Tossed a few treats on the ground and was able to slowly remove the leash. Color Level: Exp Blue Per staff 5/4: Adding good dog meet however keeping needs meet attribute due to tense and no real reaction to other dog. Per staff 5/4: From veterinarian about neuter restraint 5/3: staff will know more about getting out of kennel. In surgery he was avoidant of handling, but backed into me/sat up against my legs and we were able to place muzzle with no issue and froze for auscultation and giving TTD. No escalation of behavior, not reactive just avoidant. Per staff 5/4: Handling notes from vet nurse for neuter 5/3: I had to lasso the dog. I opened the door and used a gentle pull to motivate them. Was very nervous fearful. Willing came out of kennel . Stayed close by didn't pull or put the brakes on. Head was low and constantly looking different directions. For patient safety we used a muzzle. Patient did make attempt to bite hand when placing muzzle. Once placed , When attempting to restrain, used very slow approach and was able to secure animal for exam and induction of anesthesia. Patient was trembling. Removed muzzle and patient stopped shaking and started to decompress. Per staff 5/2: Whale eye, ears pasted back, tail tightly tucked, retreated when I opened the gate. Ate offered treats tossed in. Lip licks, averted gaze. Very fearful. Placing visual barrier on backside of kennel, keeps going to back gate when hearing noises Per staff 5/1: Fellow is very fearful, displaying whale eye, very vigilant behavior like turning away from you quickly when you attempt to approach and watching every move you make with a tense body, will not allow any "hands-on" physical examination it is best to move SLOW! Per staff 5/1: Barked at people walking by while with finder. Later saw dog in back of kennel, laying down, trembling with ears back and wide eyes.
