From Apple's rescuer: It was April 2021, a cool and quiet evening in Kona Hawaii. I walked to my nearby colony to feed them and give them fresh water. This cat colony is one of my favorites and is located in an old lava field with some flowers and a few large trees. There are 17 mature cats that reside in this colony. As I squatted down putting the kibble for the kitties into a dish...I saw something white and small at the corner of my eye. This small white object darted across the field like a flash. I thought this is not possible? This field is very large and the cats here are very mellow and older. But sure enough, it was a tiny white kitten with a black spot running so fast. The other cats looked at the kitten and then looked back at me. It's been a long time or likely the first time any of these cats have ever seen a kitten. The cats began to eat and so did this jumpy, excited kitten. He was so fast running around, something that I would always remember. I was not prepared for a kitten and AdvoCATS clinic was scheduled for another two weeks out. I did not have a cat trap or carrier with me. I was only hoping the kitten would show up the next evening. It did. I trapped it and took it home to foster. The kitten was about 6 weeks old and ready for the next clinic. At clinic they said he was a male. I decided to keep the kitten as he grew on me. The other cats at home liked him and welcomed him as well. He really bonded with a calico named Daisy. She wrestled the kitten. They ran through the house together playing and hiding. At night he slept in his special small room to train for the litter box especially. It took a few months for a name for the kitten. I just remembered how fast he moved through the field that evening. It's now July and the Summer Olympics was on. Olympics was postponed in 2020 to be held in 2021. We watched the swim events and Olympic Gold medalist "Zach Apple" representing the United States won the Gold medal in the 4x100 meter freestyle. He was so very fast. It came to me the kitten is Apple, Zach Apple. Apple does well with other cats. He loves treats, and grooming time. He sits on my lap and has the deepest purr with a tender vibration. He naps during the day and prefers a dark quiet space.
