River was brought to us by a kind person after being found abandoned on a dead end road. Her name comes from the area she was found, as it was right next to a river. Unfortunately, River had a very large hernia when she arrived, but she just (5/4/26) had surgery to repair it and we are hoping it holds up! During her surgery, she was also spayed and tested for heartworm, which she devastatingly also tested positive for. We will treat her heartworm, though, and are hopeful she can find a good home to recover in from everything she’s been through! Despite it all, River is SO sweet! She absolutely loves all people, including kids, and has done well with some dogs and even cats! She is completely potty trained and doesn’t great keeping her kennel clean! River loves just hanging out on a bench with people! She would make a great cuddle buddy, and a great travel companion as she loves the car, too! River is guessed to be 5+ years old, and is a beautiful tan lab mix! Every dog adopted from Green Hills Animal Shelter is fixed, wormed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, and is tested for heartworm (if old enough). Dogs from GHAS will also come with a starter bag of Hills Science Diet dog/puppy food to get you started!
