Hey, hi, hello. Tex here! Yes, this Tex, the 5 year old German Shepherd available for adoption from Owen County Humane Society currently living his foster era at Mannered Mutts Training in Bloomington, Indiana. I am once again opening applications for my forever home, and I would like to be very clear, I bring a lot to the table. Mostly the ball. I bring the ball back, repeatedly. Let’s start with the obvious, I am elite at fetch. Not casual, not “sometimes.” I am locked in. You throw it, I retrieve it like this is a job with benefits and I’m trying to get promoted. Every throw matters, and Every return is immediate. No detours, no nonsense, no “you come get it.” I have standards. We will play until your arm hurts, and you start questioning your life choices. My personality (widely loved): I’m super social with other dogs. I show up to group play like I was personally invited by everyone. No drama, no pickiness, just “wow more friends, this is incredible.” I’ve lived with older kids, I’m easygoing, and I’m very into being part of whatever is happening, especially if it involves snacks, toys, or, again, throwing things for me. Skill set Food motivated ✔️ Toy motivated ✔️ Smart ✔️ (recently realized learning things = rewards = I am now a scholar) Crate trained ✔️ Communication style: Yes, I will occasionally comment on situations. A bark, a boof, a brief announcement. I am not yelling constantly, I am simply offering select, high quality observations. Now... the past (briefly, because growth): I came from a hoarding situation in 2022, so I didn’t exactly get a structured start. Then I had homes where I had people who were around all the time and did great, but when I was suddenly left alone with no training or transition, I made some.... bold interior design decisions. Doors were affected, drywall may have been involved. We’ve all moved on. Important plot development: I am now crate trained. I understand structure. I have discovered that making good choices is actually very easy when someone explains the assignment first. Shocking, I know. What I need: Consistency, exercise (FETCH. please keep up), and a human who understands that I am a smart dog who thrives with guidance, not a “figure it out, buddy” situation. To conclude, I am a loyal, friendly, fetch-obsessed, moderately chatty (but respectful) German Shepherd who will: - Be your ride-or-die - Keep you active - Entertain you daily - And return the ball with the dedication of a professional athlete Adopt me. Bring a ball. Bring backup balls. I have dedication and I’m not afraid to use it. https://ochumane.org/adoption-form/
