About Xander

This dog is currently out of state but will be transported to New England shortly with no additional travel costs. The long distance adoption process includes talking to the foster they are living with in the south. Roughly 90% of our dogs are successfully long distance adopted and 10% adopted locally. **Please read Xander's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!** Meet Xander, a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing 13 pounds (as of 4/28/26). A breeder from Tennessee turned this adorable guy in. He's excited to be on his own and hopefully on his way to your home! Xander is a sweet guy who is very shy at first, but can easily be won over with lots of treats! Keep 'em coming! When Xander was brought in, it was clear that he wasn't well socialized. Luckily, he's been working with his amazing foster and getting comfortable around people. He even climbed into his foster's lap! For shy dogs everywhere, that's a win! He's still very nervous of being picked up, but Xander will come to you if you're sitting down, so get cozy! This boy loves to cuddle and he hopes you will too! When Xander isn't giving you adorable puppy dog eyes for more treats, he loves to wrestle with his foster siblings and chew on Benebones. Since Xander has lived with other dogs of various sizes, we recommend a home where he can have a dog sibling to show him the ropes. He hasn't had experience with kids or cats yet, but, again, he's a nervous widdle boy. We don't think he needs to be around little kids nor cats, but maybe one day he'll be comfortable enough to do so. He's doing great on house-training and crates. He is still a little scared at first with leashes but quickly settles down and walks well. Xander would thrive in a family that will give him love and patience as he gets comfortable enough to leave his shell. To say thank you, he might even give you a kiss! Bring this lovable boy home now! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Xander, you must fill out an adoption application. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
