About Altair

Altair has spent his life outdoors until recently, but you’d never guess he was once a colony cat. He’s transformed into a devoted foodie and a true lover of comfort. This big tabby can’t get enough attention from his people and wants to be where the action is—there’s a running commentary if you’re not paying him enough mind or if he wants a snack. Altair isn’t a lap cat, but he is a couch and bed companion who likes to be close by. He’s fine being picked up for short spells, but don’t expect to carry him around. At 15 pounds, he’s no lightweight, but it hasn’t stopped him from chasing after Churu and wet food, which are the way to his heart. Altair lives with FIV and chronic Calicivirus, causing some congestion and sneezes, but it doesn’t slow him down. He’s immunocompromised and benefits from some extra care, including a little humidity from a shower or supplements in his meals. He does best with cats who aren’t too pushy and must go to a home without dogs. Children are also not a good match, since Altair can nip when overstimulated. He’s affectionate, always nearby, and thrives on human company—just be ready for a cat who makes his feelings known. Ready for a quirky companion who’s happiest by your side? They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
