Anka is a large, neutered male cat now residing in Ringoes, NJ. While his breed is a mix of Domestic Medium Hair and Domestic Short Hair, what sets him apart is his resilient attitude—he uses his strong front legs to get around after losing use of his back legs. Anka requires a home as the only cat, and he will need a caregiver familiar with or open to accommodating his special needs.

About Anka

Anka started his life on the streets of Turkey, fending for himself and competing with other male cats for daily survival. After being hit by a car at age two, Anka lost the use of his back legs and faced an uncertain future—a situation especially tough in a place with few resources for paralyzed cats. Fortunately, someone stepped in and got him the care he needed, even though he’ll never walk on his back legs again. His journey from Istanbul led him eventually to safety and a second chance at Tabby's Place in the US. Now safe and thriving, Anka spends his days in the Volunteer Office, where he greets every visitor enthusiastically. He loves receiving pets and head scratches and always enjoys human company. Other cats, however, are not his thing—he needs to be the only cat in the home. Despite his paralysis, Anka is playful and quick; his strong front legs let him chase toys and scoot around with impressive speed. Life has changed dramatically for Anka, but the last missing piece is a family where he can finally belong. If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful, and spirited companion—who just happens to need special accommodations—Anka is ready to share his new world with you.
