Checkers came from a home in a neighborhood in Riverside, CA back in the summer of 2025. His caretaker would pass by the house often and noticed there were kittens outside near the street, so one day, they stopped to ask about them (there were two kittens originally). The owner was a 16-year-old girl who said they were hers, and the caretaker was concerned the kittens might get run over since they were always outside near the road! One of her neighbors kept one, and then the caretaker later took Checkers in so he would be safe. Since then Checkers has grown into a friendly, curious, and playful dude. He does well around some other mild-mannered cats (with a long introduction period) and enjoys attention from people. This is what his caretaker has to say about him: "He is extremely comfortable around strangers, children, anyone. He likes to explore his surroundings and has a curious personality. I haven't noticed any specific dislikes, but he is very social and enjoys being around everyone! He has done well being around my infant son and other younger children in our family."
