This is the part of rescue that never gets easier… Lacey is a sweet, middle-aged girl who found herself here through no fault of her own, an owner surrender. And if you’ve ever seen it firsthand, you know… these are the hardest ones. She didn’t come in bouncing. She didn’t come in wagging. She came in confused. Quiet. Unsure. The smells, the noise, the constant movement… it’s overwhelming. And for Lacey, it’s been a lot. She’s been keeping to herself, curled up on her bed, not wanting to move much, not ready to trust just yet. She hasn’t shown us who she really is, and honestly, we don’t blame her. This is what heartbreak looks like in a shelter. She’s around 40–50 lbs, and we know there’s a good girl in there… we just need someone patient enough to help her feel safe again. Lacey doesn’t need someone to “fix” her. She needs someone who understands her. Someone who will go slow. Sit with her. Let her come around on her own time. Someone who knows that the best bonds are built gently. We would love nothing more than to make her stay here as short as possible.
