He may be timid and shy at first, but once he trusts you, he bonds deeply and will follow you everywhere — the definition of a velcro dog. Because of his past, Reese is still learning to fully trust humans, but he is making progress every single day with patience, love, and (his favorite) treats. He tends to feel more comfortable with women initially and can be a bit nervous around men, but he’s already started warming up to his foster dad and continues to grow more confident. Reese absolutely loves other dogs and has done amazing with his four foster siblings — big, small, young, and old. He’s incredibly respectful of their space and social cues, and he quickly learned to follow their lead in the home. While he hasn’t been tested with cats, it's believed he could learn to peacefully coexist with slow introductions. Training has been going so well for this smart boy! Reese has excellent recall and already knows “sit,” “leave it,” “drop it,” “kennel,” and “touch.” He politely sits for his meals and has been doing great learning “wait” at the door. He recently conquered his fear of the leash and is now confidently walking in the yard; next step: exploring the world beyond! Reese is both potty trained and kennel trained. He goes into his kennel without issue, though he is still working through some separation anxiety and can be a bit vocal when left alone. With continued reassurance and routine, he’s improving more each day. At night, Reese sleeps soundly on his dog bed and does great, though he might wake up a little early, just excited to start the day with his people. He also has the cutest little habit of “borrowing” his foster mom’s shoes—not to chew, just to carry to his bed and cuddle with. Reese will need a patient, loving home willing to give him the time he needs to fully open up. But once he does, you’ll see just how special he truly is—a loyal, loving companion who will stick by your side through everything.
