About Amani
Amani’s world changed when he landed in the city shelter after his previous owner could no longer care for him. The shelter environment was overwhelming and frightening, but thanks to a caring foster, he got a second chance. Now, in his foster home, Amani has started to blossom. He’s about 4 years old and, at 22 lbs, a small mixed breed with plenty of Chihuahua in the mix. Amani is energetic, curious, and loves exploring outside—an entirely new adventure for him. He’ll bounce by the door ready for a walk and sometimes scratches with excitement, so he needs continued guidance there. New people and situations can make him nervous, but he warms up and shows a sweet, affectionate side once he feels safe. He’s big on cuddles and will twist himself into your lap or press his head onto your shoulder for comfort. Amani gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having a small, confident dog friend. Alternatively, he'd thrive being the center of attention as the only dog. He hasn’t lived with young kids or cats, so a home without them is the best fit. Potty training is still a work in progress, but he’s clever, loves treats, and picks up new routines quickly. He’s crate and paper trained and is learning to walk on leash without reacting to passing distractions. He’s a barky guy, announcing arrivals and joining in with the pack, so apartment dwellers who don’t mind some noise will do fine, but a patient home is a must. If you’re looking for a happy, loyal little dog who just needs a bit of reassurance and ongoing training to shine, Amani could be your match. He’s ready to offer loyalty and love to a family who lets him settle in at his own pace. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
