Mitchell is a sweet and lovable 1-year-old Dachshund mix, weighing about 19 pounds — the perfect small companion for almost any home. Mitchell is everything you hope for in a young dog: • Sweet and gentle • Playful and happy • Friendly with people • Gets along well with other dogs However, despite all his wonderful qualities, there are a few important things we want to share about Mitchell. Mitchell truly needs a person of his own — someone who will love him deeply and make him feel safe and secure. He doesn’t enjoy sharing his person, and that comes from his past. He has been through a lot, spent too much time without a family, and as a result, he tends to bond very strongly and see his human as his person. He gets along well with other dogs and does great with them outside the home. However, in a home environment, he can become quite jealous. The ideal home for Mitchell would be one where he is the only dog, so he can fully relax and feel secure. Alternatively, he could do well with experienced owners who are willing to work with him patiently and help him understand that having another dog in the home does not mean he will be loved any less.
