Andrea’s bio Andrea is a gentle soul with gorgeous eyes who’s experienced things no dog should. We don’t know what happened to her but it’s made her extremely shy and timid. It’s taken quite a while for her to warm up to us, but even when she’s nervous, it’s clear that all she wants is love! She’s curious and bright eyed. Once she feels safe, she’s excited to see you in the morning and sometimes gives a brief little mini-bark/yowl combo to let you know she’s glad you’re there. She’s a great eater and knows that after eating it’s potty time. She’s pee pad trained but prefers going outside to do her business. She enjoys exploring in the area near her pen and in the yard. Since she is still timid near people, we usually open the door a bit and walk away so she can feel safe going outside on her own. She would do great in a home that has a doggy door so she can enter and exit as she pleases. Things she loves: Stuffed animals - the stuffier the better, although fair warning, she can destroy stuffies faster than any pup I’ve ever seen! We’ve finally realized that she needs tougher toys with reinforced fabric, which has curbed our stuffie budget down to a normal level. Treat Puzzles - she’s a smart girl and loves toys where she can challenge herself and get rewarded. Squeaky toys - stuffies are her favorite but she enjoys a good squeaky from time to time. Rawhide free chewy bones and treats of all kinds - definitely treat motivated Cozy dog beds Things she’s still learning: Human touch - like I said, she’s clearly experienced bad things at the hands of humans. She’ll accept a scratch under the chin while taking treats from your hand, but don’t force it, allow her to decide when to be touched. It’s only a matter of time before she will become a love bug, as she’s getting more and more comfortable being close to us and clearly wants to engage. Sometimes she even comes behind me and boops my leg with her nose to let me know she’s happy to see me. We have not attempted walking her yet, staying focused on making her feel safe at home and in the yard before venturing out into the world. A home with a fenced yard will be important for her so she can get some exercise - she does the best zoomies! She is dog-curious and cat tolerant. She’d do well with a low-key dog sibling around to show her the ropes, but lots of loud barking is very scary for her (PTSD from the noisy and chaotic shelter). She prefers to eat alone and is protective of her meal - she’s not aggressive but does give a soft growl if one of our pets gets too close while she’s eating. About 32 pounds, 1 year 9 months, unsure of breed. Definitely some shepherd in her (look at her ears), perhaps a bit of terrier, pointer or cattle dog. She’s got the prettiest freckled spots throughout her white coat! Andrea needs a gentle, patient adopter who sees what an amazing pup she is and gives her the time and space to blossom. It will be worth it!!
